Monroe County A to Z

The directors of the Monroe County Local History Museum, Hannah and Jarod, had a dream; a big one; to create the history of Monroe County as a children’s pop – up book with informative text, static artifacts and interactive components. They came to us prepared with their rough draft of all of the pages, complete with ideas for the interactive components.

We immediately started making plans for how to best construct the book. Analyzing the proposed plans for each of the interactive elements led to generating alternate ideas on how to keep them functional but low tech as requested. The months passed as the MCLHR Directors found the resources to move the project forward.

“We’re excited to announce that our “Monroe County A to Z” exhibit has just won the Leadership in History Award of Excellence given by the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH)! This is the most prestigious recognition for achievement in the preservation and interpretation of state and local history, and we’re proud to be 1 of the 50 recipients this year!”

The engaging exhibit is the result of countless hours of research, play testing and utilized all of our capabilities. The book was a mentally challenging, but stimulating project and represents a collaboration of many minds working toward a common goal. Monroe County A to Z is a project that we are proud to say we were part of! The exhibit is located in downtown Sparta,Wi. in the Monroe County Local History Room adjacent to the Deke Slayton Space and Bicycle Museum.
